Common use

Mentax cream is indicated for the topical treatment of the following dermatophytoses:

• Tinea Pedis (Athlete’s Foot): Interdigital type (between the toes) and moccasin-type (plantar surface of the foot) infections caused by susceptible organisms.
• Tinea Corporis (Ringworm of the Body): Annular, scaly, pruritic plaques on the glabrous (hairless) skin.
• Tinea Cruris (Jock Itch): Infections of the groin, perianal, and perineal regions.
• Tinea (Pityriasis) Versicolor: A common superficial infection caused by Malassezia species, presenting as hypopigmented or hyperpigmented macules on the trunk and proximal extremities.

Dosage and direction

For optimal results, apply a thin layer of Mentax cream to cover the affected area and approximately 1 inch of the surrounding healthy skin.

• For Tinea Pedis: Apply twice daily for one (1) week, followed by once daily for an additional three (3) weeks (total treatment duration: 4 weeks).
• For Tinea Corporis and Tinea Cruris: Apply once daily for two (2) weeks.
• For Tinea (Pityriasis) Versicolor: Apply once daily for two (2) weeks. Thoroughly wash hands before and after application. The area should be cleaned and dried gently prior to application. Even if symptoms improve quickly, complete the full course of therapy as prescribed to prevent relapse and ensure mycological cure.

Precautions

• For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nostrils, mouth, other mucous membranes, and open wounds.
• If irritation or sensitivity develops, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.
• Use this medication only for the condition for which it was prescribed. Do not share it with others.
• Occlusive dressings should not be used unless directed by a physician, as they may increase systemic absorption and the risk of adverse reactions.
• If no clinical improvement is observed after the designated treatment period, the diagnosis should be reevaluated.

Contraindications

Mentax is contraindicated in patients with a known history of hypersensitivity to butenafine hydrochloride, any other benzylamine antifungals, or to any of the inactive ingredients in the cream formulation.

Possible side effect

Mentax is generally well-tolerated. The most commonly reported adverse reactions are local and mild in nature. These may include:

• Burning sensation at the site of application
• Stinging or itching
• Contact dermatitis (redness, dryness, irritation)
• Worsening of the condition (erythema, pruritus) Systemic reactions are exceedingly rare due to minimal absorption but could include allergic reactions in highly sensitive individuals. Report any persistent or severe reactions to a healthcare professional.

Drug interaction

Formal drug interaction studies have not been conducted with topically applied Mentax. Due to its minimal systemic absorption (less than 1%), clinically significant drug interactions are not anticipated. However, always inform your physician of all medications you are using, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Overdose

Topical overdose is unlikely due to the localized application. Excessive application may lead to increased local adverse effects such as severe irritation. In the event of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center. Symptoms of ingestion are not well-documented but may be related to the effects seen with similar compounds.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Excursions are permitted between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children and pets. Discard any unused medication after the treatment course is completed.
